From an Idea to Impact: What Founding My School's Interact Club Taught Me About Leadership

When a member of our local Rotary Club introduced the idea of starting Interact Club at our high school, I was instantly interested. I have always loved service and volunteer work, but I knew that this was going to be something much bigger. I knew that it was a chance to take what I was already passionate about and help build something meaningful with my peers.

I quickly got involved and became part of the founding team that helped bring the Interact Club to life on our campus. With the support of our local Rotary here in Babcock and the school sponsor, we started planning projects, building awareness to local issues, and encouraging other students to join us.

What began as a small group of service minded students quickly turned into a powerful force for good.

Since our launch, the Interact Club has:

  • 🌱 Led Earth Day initiatives and partnered with our local church

  • 💧 Developed a fundraising project that has now raised over $8,000 for Water4Life Mozambique

  • 🌪️ Collected donations for hurricane relief efforts

  • 🌍 Partnered with my nonprofit, The Drop Project, to support global water initiatives

  • 🏖️ Conducted monthly beach clean-ups to pick up debris from hurricane

  • 🔦 Given students a platform to lead, speak up, and serve their community

As a student leader in the club, I've learned that creating impact doesn't always mean starting something new, it can mean stepping up when something important is just getting started. I've helped organize events, run meetings, and connect with local organizations at an in depth scale.

Being part of Interact has taught me that leadership is often about supporting others, encouraging action, and helping others to achieve their goals. I'm proud to be the Interact Club President, and I can't wait to see how much further the club grows this coming year.
