About The Drop Project, Inc.
The Drop Project began with a simple question from high school student Cypress Cohen: “Why do so many people still lack access to clean water?”
What started as a school project quickly grew into a nonprofit movement to raise awareness about global and local water insecurity. Cypress saw how her own community in Florida often took water for granted, while millions around the world, including families in Mozambique, struggled daily to access safe, clean water.
Determined to bridge that gap, Cypress founded The Drop Project to educate, advocate, and inspire action.

Meet the Founder
Cypress Cohen is more than a student—she is a changemaker. As the founder of The Drop Project, Cypress has dedicated her voice, energy, and leadership to ensuring that people everywhere understand the importance of water security.
Cypress grew up in Babcock Ranch, Florida, where water was something most people never had to think twice about. But as she learned more about global challenges, she was struck by the reality that millions of children her age walk miles each day for water that isn’t even safe to drink. That realization ignited her passion to take action.
Balancing academics, athletics, and leadership roles in organizations like the Interact Club, Student Government, and the National Honor Society, Cypress has always been drawn to service. But The Drop Project is her way of creating lasting impact.
She has:
-
Written and published a children’s book (Buckets and Big Dreams) to teach younger audiences about water equity.
-
Designed curriculum and interactive classroom kits to help teachers bring water education into their schools.
-
Organized Water Week, a school-wide initiative combining STEM, art, literacy, and physical education to immerse students in the issue of water insecurity.
-
Partnered with Water4Life Mozambique to raise funds for clean water wells, directly changing lives across the globe.
Her work has been recognized with awards such as being selected as the Girls State Delegate for Babcock Ranch, The Youth Hero Award- Babcock Ranch, Carson Scholar, Global Citizen Award, and Distinguished Leader Award. Beyond accolades, Cypress believes that the real measure of success is in the students who learn, the communities that get involved, and the families who gain access to safe water because of awareness and action.
